Vocational-Training & Tertiary Studies

As explained in our recent reports a growing number of our beneficiaries are leaving school after completing class ten with a diploma called slc (school-leaving-certificate) or, if they are weak in studies and anxious to learn a profession, after class eight (district-level-certificate).

Only the most gifted of our students will continue their studies up to the bachelor-degree and a few among those are going to qualify for university-studies abroad and this in due time.

As it happens most of the good students, all those who are completing class ten, aspire to become nurses. we do of course support their choice since this is a respectable profession and it proves their devotion to serve others. moreover the health sector in nepal is developing in a fast pace and employment for well trained nurses is guaranteed. three of our beneficiaries are already undergoing their formation in one of the best private institutes in pokhara and three more will follow suite in the year 2012.

However, this formation is taking place in a boarding-school were the trainees are living and this for a time span of eighteen months. the school fee and the costs for living are quite high, amounting to a total of 2.500 euro which includes all the expenses for one and a half years of vocational training including all costs of living.
Our beneficiaries bidya and sorita are sponsored by our sister organization chl luxembourg and kalpana is sponsored by our partners “BONO-Direct-Aid-Germany.
Three more of our girls, kalpana, saphna and sanghita, who will finish their school in 2012, have expressed their desire to become nurses too, but we will not be able to enroll them for vocational training unless the funds have been secured.
It is for this reason that we are now reaching out to potential donors who are willing to sponsor the training of one of our nurses to be.

Those girls that are leaving the schools at class eight or at an earlier stage because they are too weak in their studies and/or they are failing to pass, will undergo vocational training provided that they have passed the age of sixteen.

A number of our daughters are trained or would like to be trained at our “bahini café” and this in the respective professions of chefs, waitresses, pastry-chefs, house-keeper or management and this according to their talents and ability.

Others are training in one of the “vocational-training-centre” in pokhara and this in the profession of “care-giver”, “electrician” and even “plumber”.

As for the brightest among our daughters, around 20 % of them, they will study up to the bachelors’ degree. once they have obtained the bachelors’ degree they are qualified for university-studies abroad, but this will only be possible if they find a donor who is willing to sponsor their studies abroad and who is willing to take care of their personal needs until they finished their studies.

It will take another four to five years before the first of our girls will be eligible for university studies,  but given the scale of the committment

We are starting early enough to reach out to potential sponsors who will find it in their heart (and in their wallet) to sponsor some of the most gifted girls of nepal.
