The Bahini-Cross-Roads-House
"There are two things we can aspire to give to our children, one is roots the other is wings"

As reported in our recent newsletter the number of our beneficiaries who are leaving school is increasing. After completing class eight (District-Level-Certificate) or class ten SLC (School-Leaving-Certificate) most of them will end their formal education and enter vocational-training.

Only the most gifted of our students will continue their studies up to the bachelor’s degree and the brightest among them will qualify for tertiary studies in Universities abroad.

The "Crossroads-House" is a transitional home for all the girls who are entering a new stage in their lives. They will enjoy more freedom but they will have to assume more responsibility as well. Just like young birds when making their first attempts to fly, risking short loops only and quickly returning to the nest our girls will make their first loops to independence. There is a mother bird though, and this in the person of Krishna Gauchan, one of our IFAP family mothers who is living with her family in the same house. She has sharp eyes and she will be watching that none of our birds will fall out of the nest.

The house is located in one of the nicest areas in Pokhara, quiet and picturesque, with a large garden and a hall adjacent to it that will serve as a common recreational and educational facility.

The first of the trainees from the "Bahini Café" will be moving in this week and a couple of girls who will finish their vocational training in the months to come will follow. Once they found a job and once they have attained self-sufficiency we are going to encourage them to look for their own place and start their life in independence.

Thus the circle will close and the girls who arrived at SOS Bahini years ago, abandoned, helpless and desperate will now be able to shape their own future and this with the confidence, self-esteem and zeal that is so characteristic for our daughters.

Please enjoy the photos and let us all rejoice in the fact that the last stepping stone for a life in independence and dignity has now been placed.

With kind regards Raymond & the TEAM
